Since 1997, the Berlin ensemble Die Gorillas plays and explores in the still young genre of improvisational theatre. The by now 11 actors and 2 musicians play three weekly shows in Berlin and are hosting the International Festival for Improvisational Theatre „Impro“ since 2001. Improvisational theatre is a theatre genre, where not a fixed play but improvised stories are played. The actors usually use suggestions from the audience, such as names, time, place to perform spontaneously. In a lot of formats of improvisational theatre the audience is also judging the scenes or actors. As a highly topical and interactive theatre format, improvisational theatre is enthusing a large and growing audience around the globe. With their youngster ensemble Gimmicks, which is performing weekly since 2008, and their workshop offer Die Gorillas are passing on their experience in impro.
