For the first time after nine years, a German Improv Championship took place in fall 2009 again. Presented by Berlin's "Die Gorillas", nine other improv ensembles showed the spread of improvisational theatre in Gemany.

From september 28th until october 4th 2009 the ten groups presented one act improvised longforms; Schiller, Fassbinder - murder or soap: Germany's improv ensembles showed a wide range of genres and formats. The championship ended with the award of three prizes: a jury awarded the most innovative format (Die Gorillas, Berlin: RWF), the audience chose their favourite (Für Garderobe keine Haftung, Wiesbaden) and also the winner from the Theatresports tournament (fast food theater, München) received a trophy.
